Who We Are

Michael Budnick
Owner/President Northwest Concepts, Inc.

Designer and landscape contractor, Michael Budnick, has been a leader in the local native plant movement since moving to the San Juan Islands and creating Northwest Concepts in 1985. His appreciation for the native beauty found in the San Juans guides his creative and natural design style.

Early in his career, Michael spent summers hiking from California to Alaska, observing and absorbing nature’s design, his “outdoor university”. Experience in commercial construction followed, where he learned the basics of the closed grading plan, stockpiling available resources on site, bidding and equipment operation. Knowing in the beginning what the end result will be underlies all his design and technical work.

Michael brings the knowledge of a naturalist, the technical skills of a contractor, and the eye of an artist to every project. He has been called a “moss hugger” for his zeal in recycling moss, duff, native topsoil, ferns and more. But if it works, why not!
